Exposure to the arts from an early age is critical to the cognitive, physical, and social-emotional development of children.

Art Classes

Paint Nights (Ages 12+)

This lighthearted class will paint a guided imaginative landscape meant to introduce all to the joy of painting. This is a true beginner’s introduction to painting geared for all ages. Great for teens, a girls-night-out, or date night. Painting is for everyone!

On the second Saturday of each month, aspiring young artists can join Ms. Kat for themed projects using various mediums. Each workshop will explore a different theme in art making with two corresponding projects for young artists to focus on technique. Monthly themes will include portraiture, still-life, landscaping, and printmaking.

We invite young people on the spectrum, along with their parents, to join us on the last Thursday of each month as we explore hands-on activities including art, sensory crafts, and games. Number of participants is limited. Register online to secure a spot in class.

Kids aged 6 to 12 can join Chief Inspector O.C. on the second Friday of each month to sharped their sleuthing skills. Junior detectives will work under Inspector O.C.’s command to solve a new crime each time they meet. The young detectives will use skills of observation as they work through clues and evidence in an attempt to solve the mystery. All content will be child friendly.

Educational Offerings

Safe Sitter (Ages 11+)

Calling all baby-sitters 11 and up! This nationally recognized, medically accurate, hands-on class teaches boys and girls how to handle emergencies such as injury management and choking rescue while caring for children. Students will learn the basics of childcare through games, activities and role play. Course includes a Safe Sitters tote bag starter kit and manual ($30 value). Class size is limited. Pizza will be provided for lunch.

YMCA Robotics (7 - 14)

This basic robotics class will challenge students’ thinking by introducing
block programming and building with specified Legos. Students will be
exposed to all of the benefits of STEM including building bonds with
their peers and learning more about our world.

The Edwardsville YMCA Youth Ambassadors is excited to invite you to be a part of our community supporting team. We welcome arts loving, sports minded, bookish, extroverted, introverted and people of all interests and abilities. Come together with us to find ways to support our community. Help us make our ideas happen by participating in projects that lift us all up!

If you are interested in becoming a YMCA Youth Ambassador, call ahead and attend a meeting at 6:00pm at the Meyer Center one of the first three Wednesdays of any month. Bring a friend! If you decide to join, we ask for a $10 fee that goes toward a membership T-shirt.

Interactive Storytime *NEW*

Interactive Storytime is a FREE event sponsored by the YMCA Youth Ambassadors. Children ages 4 to 6 are invited to express themselves by acting out stories with the Ambassadors as they are read aloud. Creative movement and noise are encouraged! Comfortable clothing is recommended. Call the desk and register to secure a spot in class.

Edwardsville Arts Center Classes

The Edwardsville Art Center Inspires the lives of youth and the creative spirit of adults through classes, exhibits, and cultural events. Courses are offered at the Edwardsville High School in well-equipped classrooms (D120 & D160). Classes are taught by professionally educated working artists from the Edwardsville area.
