In a fun, encouraging environment, we will make sure every participant is able to be the best they can be. Students will learn the fundamentals of dance, how to control their body movements and have a greater awareness of rhythms and music.

A great way to gear up for Pre-Ballet, this independent class teaches basic stretching, barre, leaps, jumps, fun terminology and dance activities in a nurturing environment.

Level 2 Ballet ( Ages 5 - 8)

Class will continue building on terminology and skills learned in Level 1, focusing on barre and combinations in center. Students entering level 2 should be able to demonstrate the five positions, a single pirouette turn, a pique turn and a changement. Must have 2 sessions of the previous level or instructor approval.

Y Performing Arts Company (Ypac)

This class is performance based while using skills that have been developed and mastered through Level 2 Ballet. In order to participate in this company, you should also be enrolled in the Thursday night Level 2 Ballet class. The group will focus on learning dance routines that will be performed throughout the community. For example city events, nursing homes and other venues will showcase their dance abilities. The goal is to foster a deeper love of dance for those that are ready for the next level. Performers MUST be at least 6 years old, in Level 2 Ballet and mastered a majority of Level 2 Ballet skills from previous sessions.

Intermediate Ballet (Ages 9 - 12)

Students in these levels, continue to expand their ballet vocabulary. They perform more difficult barre progressions, more demanding center work and longer combinations across the floor. Improvement of strength, technical ability, flexibility, musicality and artistry is consistently emphasized at this level. Attention is given to developing students’ understanding of becoming a well-rounded dancer. It is strongly recommended that students in these ballet levels enroll in two ballet classes per week, if available. It is necessary for most students to train in an intermediate ballet level for multiple years before advancement.

Advanced Ballet (Ages 13 & up)

For placement in advanced levels, students must consistently demonstrate good to excellent technical ability with increasing artistic awareness. Class work at these levels is progressively more physically and mentally challenging, requiring excellent attendance. Students dancing at these levels should attend ballet at least two times each week. It is, strongly, recommended that they attend more than twice a week, if classes are available.

Pointe (Ages 13 & up)

To participate in this class, students must be well focused and must demonstrate a level of proficiency in their ballet training that meets the physical demands of pointe work. Participating in Pointe class requires strength, excellent understanding of body placement and consistency in both technique and attendance. Enrollment in two ballet classes per week, at a level of Intermediate or higher, is required for all Pointe students. Attendance must be excellent in all ballet classes to participate and maintain enrollment in pointe class.

Intermediate Modern (Ages 9 - 12)

In these class levels, students are familiarized with the fundamentals of modern dance through a variety of techniques and styles. Understanding of rhythm, dynamics, movement qualities, body placement and use of space is cultivated. Proper technique and body alignment are continually reinforced. It is, usually, necessary for a student to take multiple years of modern, at these levels, before advancement. Occasionally, short movement improvisation games are introduced in class to encourage self-expression, build confidence and emphasize the enjoyment students can experience through dance! Enrollment in a ballet class is strongly recommended.

At advanced modern levels, awareness of artistic intention is increased as students continue to explore and improve their use of distinguishing characteristics of modern dance. Improvisation is sometimes used as a tool to encourage students’ artistic expression. Good to excellent understanding of proper body alignment and technique is required for placement in these levels.Enrollment in a ballet class is strongly recommended.

Beginner/ Intermediate Jazz (Ages 9 - 12)

Jazz students in beginning/Intermediate levels are introduced to steps, skills and movement qualities characteristic of jazz dance. As students’ progress, they incorporate these characteristics in combinations across the floor. Musicality, technical skills and self-expression are developed. Students must show progress in this class, typically, for more than 1 year prior to higher level placement. Enrollment in a ballet class is strongly recommended.

These jazz classes builds on students’ experience and skills, integrating more complex combinations, including changes in levels and dynamics. More difficult skills are introduced and there is emphasis on improving proficiency of technical abilities. Awareness of performance art is developed through use of expression and movement quality. Enrollment in at least one ballet class is strongly recommended.

Class work at these tap levels places more focus on timing and clarity of sounds. Combinations become more difficult with increased speed, more complicated rhythms and more intricate footwork. Improvisation is sometimes used in these classes to encourage students to experiment with sound and rhythm.
