All programs are led by qualified, trained individuals who help promote a safe, friendly, and supportive environment.

Recognizing the need for quality adapted programming for individuals in the Edwardsville area, the Special Needs Adapted Programs help individuals gain confidence, promote independence and responsibility, socialize and work with others, as well as nurture a healthy and active lifestyle.

Interaction

Social / Recreational Programs For Youth & Adults With Disabilities

The YMCA is proud to sponsor this exciting program for youth and adults with disabilities. This program is designed to offer the opportunity to interact in a social and recreational environment for middle school youth to older adults. After each event, the group gathers together for late night refreshments and great conversation!

The program usually meets either the first or second Friday of the month, from 6:30 – 8:30pm. All programs are held at the Niebur (Esic) Center unless otherwise noted.

We will play some games, enjoy IMOS pizza, snacks and hang out with our friends!

Some of the programs offered each year include Swimming Night, Movie Night, Arts-n-Crafts, Around the World Night, Cooking, Holiday Events and More!

In 2023, Mitch & Friends Adapted Tennis at the Y will be on the 2nd Tuesday Of The Month! We will introduce the basic skills of tennis & all the game can offer.

Shine Time

We invite autistic children aged 6 to 10 and their parents to join us the 4th Tuesday of every month as we explore interactive art activities, play with musical instruments and follow simple movement to music. Number of participants is limited. Register online to secure a spot in class.

Special Needs Swimming

Special Needs Swimming With Caregiver (Ages 3+)

This class is designed to create a safe environment for learning water safety, along with the basic swimming fundamentals for people with special needs. The caregiver needs to accompany the child in the water.

Special Needs Gymnastics

ADAPTIVE OPEN GYM (AGES 5 - 15)

This Open Gym is designed for students that need extra supervision and a small student to coach ratio while playing in our big gym. Please contact Tammy our Gymnastics Director for more info at tpocuca@edwymca.com. (45 min; 5:1 ratio).

Access

All Children Can Experience Sports Successfully

The YMCA is offering an opportunity for every child to be able to participate in sports! ACCESS is an inclusive sports program designed so that all children can learn to play various sports together. This unique opportunity teaches the fundamental skills of a sport in a non-competitive environment. Children are assisted by personal mentors if needed. ACCESS teaches acceptance, teamwork, and socialization all in a fun environment.
