Edwardsville YMCA, SIUE Athletics Announce the Junior Cougars Leagues!
SIUE Athletics and the Edwardsville YMCA are teaming up to create an enhanced and memorable experience for young athletes in the community. Starting this winter, the basketball and volleyball leagues at the Edwardsville YMCA will be renamed the YMCA Junior Cougars. All youth jerseys will be red and white with a Junior Cougars logo!
“This partnership between the Edwardsville YMCA and SIUE aligns perfectly for the children in our community,” commented YMCA’s President/CEO Brandon Bell. “Basketball and volleyball both started at the YMCA, and to this day, the Edwardsville YMCA ensures that every child can play regardless of any financial constraints. The YMCA Junior Cougars program will hopefully help expand the youth fan base for my alma mater and for our community’s very own D1 college, SIUE. We are so very happy for all of the youth in our community who will get to wear and represent the YMCA Junior Cougars logo.”
SIUE Athletics and the Edwardsville YMCA have had a successful partnership over the past few years. The YMCA is recognized as an official SIUE Athletics Corporate Partner and their staff and membership consistently supports the Cougars. Additionally, Director of Athletics Andrew Gavin represents SIUE as a board member of the Edwardsville YMCA.
“We are grateful for Brandon Bell and Natasha Howard for bringing this initiative forward as an awesome way to grow our partnership,” Gavin said. “As the Metro East’s Division I, we’re always thrilled to partner with our community in mutually-beneficial ways. The Junior Cougars program will provide great visibility in the community and help create the next generation of Cougars fans, athletes, students, and community leaders! The jerseys look amazing, and I know my four kids are very excited to wear them this winter!”
