Make A Contribution In Gary's Honor ›A Heartfelt Goodbye To Gary Niebur – A Letter From Our CEO
Hello Members,
Along with many of you, the news of Gary Niebur’s passing came as devastating news. Gary meant so much to so many people. Not only was he impactful as the mayor of Edwardsville for 20 years, but he left a lasting impact at the Edwardsville YMCA as our leader for over 35 years.
During his tenure as our CEO the Y raised over $10 million dollars in donations which allowed us to expand from one building to the three beautiful facilities we have today. He also saw membership grow from less than 1,000 to over 19,000 individuals. Our community and our YMCA will be forever grateful for Gary Niebur and his impact on our lives.
We invite our members to join us at either the Niebur Center or the Meyer Center to pay your respects to the Niebur family as the funeral procession drives by the facilities starting at 11:00am on Thursday, May 7th at the Niebur Center. (We will observe social distancing rules.)
Finally, please join with me in keeping Debby, Ashley, Amanda, Abby, Andrew and the entire Niebur family in your prayers.
During these difficult times, we are still thinking about the future. We can’t wait to get you back inside our facilities. We are working hard on preparations to provide a clean and safe YMCA to allow for a great experience for you when we reopen our doors. Please stay safe and healthy. See you soon!
Sincerely,
Tom Verheyen
Edwardsville YMCA CEO
