We build teamwork and trust when you climb together at the Edwardsville YMCA! Plus climbing is a great way to work out your body and mind.

Climbing (Ages 3-10)

Billy Goats (Ages 3 - 4)

Born to climb! This is a great way for young ones to exercise, play, and learn. Here they will be taught the simple things about climbing; what our gear is called, how to balance, and how their bodies move. Parents participation recommended for age 3.

Spider Monkey (Ages 5 - 10)

This class is all about the basics to ensure that our climbers have a strong foundation to become better climbers. They will be taught climbing safety, about the gear, and some basic climbing skills. We can’t wait to see you at the wall.

Lemur (Ages 6 - 10)

Take the next step and reach a little higher. You passed so you’re moving up! Lemurs get to take on new challenges, learn more advanced climbing moves, and work on their overall physical and mental strength. No more monkey business, but we always aim to have fun at the wall. You must complete 2 sessions of Spider Monkeys before entering Lemurs. Climbing shoes optional.

Belay & Private Climb

Climbing 101 (Ages 10+)

This class is the next level after lemurs to prepare students for climbing in a gym setting or outdoors. Throughout the course, students will learn valuable information about the top rope system including belaying, knot tying, safety procedures, techniques, and equipment usage. This foundation will give climbers the knowledge necessary to climb in a larger gym environment and will teach techniques used to tackle more complex routes. Families strongly encouraged to participate together but are not required. Adults are free with a student sign up. You must complete 2 sessions of lemurs or have instructor approval before taking climbing 101. Climbing Shoes Optional.

Belay Class (By Appointment - Ages 16+)

Looking to belay? We offer a 1-hour class that teaches you top rope safety, bouldering safety, and how to belay. If you successfully pass you will be able to belay your friends during open climb. If you do not pass, you can retake the class (You Must Bring Your Own Person To Belay).

Parents Get Belay Certified For Free!

If your child is enrolled in a climbing class, parents can get belay certified during that session for free. When a parent is belay certified it allows your family to come to open climb at half the price!

Private Climbing Lessons

Available for children, adults, and families.

One Person (1-hour lesson)
Members $25 | Non-Members $35
Each Additional Person: $5

Lessons may be scheduled during open climb times, after open climb, or during the day. Advanced reservation needed, & at least 2-hour notice of cancellation or you will still be responsible for payment.

Climb To New Heights

Tot Climb (Ages 3 - 5)

Open Drop-in Program! Introducing tots to the rock wall through bouldering and free play. Please note: Tots do not use the ropes or harnesses. This is not a structured class, but an alternative space from the child watch room.
